In this webinar, the Health Literacy and Patient Education Program at Ontario Health, Canada will share strategies on how they promote the use of health literacy principles in their work in Patient Education. They will also share how they partner with teams, align their work with their organizational goals, and connect their work with health equity principles to promote a large- scale use of health literacy across their organization and the greater health care system in Ontario.
After attending this webinar, attendees will be able to:1. Understand how to apply health literacy principles in patient education2. Learn about the different ways to promote health literacy in a public system level3. Promote the use of health literacy practices to achieve health equity
Sophia Wong, MD, MSc, CCRP, CHE
Ontario HealthSophia is a Health Literacy and Patient Education Specialist at Ontario Health. She is an internationally trained physician who has focused on Patient Education in clinical and research settings for more than 8 years. Sophia is also a member of the Practice Standards Committee for the International Health Literacy Association and part of the Expert Panel of the Health Literacy Solutions Center for Integrated Healthcare Advancement (IHA).
Sarah McBainOntario Health
Sarah is a Senior Advisor for the Health Literacy and Patient Education Program at Ontario Health. She is a librarian who has focused on Patient Education, health literacy and person-centred care, primarily in oncology settings, for over 15 years. Sarah also sits on the board of the Canadian chapter of the Cancer Patient Education Network.
