This 2018 article by Boudewijn Visscher and colleagues discusses a systematic review. The review included studies on health literacy interventions in the European Union.

Researchers found that the most successful interventions:

• ·      Addressed interactive and/or critical skills (vs. knowledge only).
• ·      Presented information appropriately.
• ·      Tailored activities to patients’ needs.
