Bio

Romina is a plain language expert, translator, and writer with Language Compass. She holds an MA in Translation and is a Certified Translator in English and Spanish. She provides language services, consulting, and training to individuals and organizations (including Fortune 500 companies). She has over 20 years of experience in medical localization and health literacy. Romina has taught at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, where she designed the Master of Arts in Translation/Localization Management, launched in 2005. She is a leader and active member in professional associations, including ACES (The Editing Society), the American Medical Writers Association, the American Translators Association, the Spanish Editors Association, and RedACTE (the Alliance of Spanish Editing Associations). She has also been a guest lecturer, speaker, and contributor at many regional and international associations, events, and publications including Atlanta Association of Interpreters and Translators, CICTE (International Conference on Spanish Editing), CTPBA (Buenos Aires Sworn Translators Association), Localization World, Northern California Translators Association, OMT (Mexican Translators Association), Plain Language International Association, The Institute of Localisation Professionals, and Translate in Cambridge among others. She works on translation and plain language standards development at ASTM and ISO (in technical committees F43 and TC37), and has been invited as a judge in both English and Spanish for the 2020 ClearMark Awards sponsored by the Center for Plain Language.
