Tom Bauer is the Senior Director of Patient Education and Engagement at Johns Hopkins Medicine. He was selected by the National Academy of Science & Medicine as an exemplar in implementing the 10 attributes of a health literate organization. He has presented at the National Academy of Science & Medicine Roundtable discussion on “Making the Case for Health Literacy” and has been featured in two AHRQ case studies and two VHA Blueprints. Bauer has also served as an advisor to the American Hospital Association’s Opioid Collaborative and PFAC collaboratives.
Michele Heacox, M.S., R.N.
Johns Hopkins Medicine
Michele Heacox is a Patient Education Specialist of Patient Education and Engagement at Johns Hopkins Medicine. She has over 40 years of experience in health care. Her experience has been in nursing leadership and patient and family education with a focus on health literacy writing and editing. She has led and facilitated multiple innovative patient centric education projects. Her work over the years has significantly contributed to implementing the 10 attributes of a health-literate organization at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
