    For the record, I want the robots to be nice to me when they take over the world so I err on the side of being polite 🤣

    My husband and I are the same way, we've seen all the movies and read all the books, they will take over the world someday - I'm nice to our Chatbots, and I'm nice to Siri and Alexa.  I once got annoyed with Alexa asking me to put things in my shopping cart and was a little short with her and even went back and apologized, because I am hoping she'll remember that when they take over the world.

    This is a great topic. I am looking forward to this continued discussion.

     

    I have heard, and n my own experience, that if you provide positive feedback to AI (i.e. I really liked that answer" or "Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for") you get better results. Has anyone else found this to be true?

     

    I think of AI as an incredibly smart child who is always learning and its main goal is to please you. As a sociologist, I like to remind people that AI is socilally-constructed by humans, so it behaves similar when it comes to being polite and positive feedback.

    Stan - I love the way you describe it. I think that is spot on. I have a set up prompts that I have been using as a teaching example and I have actually found that it seems to be getting slightly better at its answers to my questions. I don't know if that is because I am asking them repeatedly and teaching it how to make them better or if the platform is just getting better. Time will tell I suppose.

    Great point Stan. I am acutely aware that AI is learning from us. When I use generative AI it's always on my mind that I am potentially educating it. I am polite because like the Eliza effect, I treat it as my human assistant. I get the same approach back which is a positive.
