This 2015 report by CRICO Strategies evaluates data from the Comparative Benchmarking System—a database of medical professional liability claims. It states that about a third of the claims from 2009 to 2013 were linked to communication failures. And more than half of the communication failures involved patient-provider communication, at a cost of up to $935 million.
