The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) developed the PEMAT to assess patient education materials. This tool measures how easy the materials are to understand and use.
The PEMAT has been tested for accuracy (validated) and is widely accepted. It comes with a user’s guide and is available for free online. Separate versions are available for use with print and audiovisual materials.
