Advancing California’s Community Health Worker & Promotor Workforce in Medi-Cal

The Center for Health Care Strategies created this 2021 resource guide for the California Health Care Foundation to help Medi-Cal managed care plans and their partners integrate community health workers and promotores (CHW/Ps) into programs that advance health equity.

The resource guide gives the context of CHW/P programs and offers resources and tools. In addition, it tells how to:

• Develop and pay for CHW/P programs and partnerships.
• Establish CHW/P roles.
• Recruit, train, and support CHW/Ps.
• Engage CHW/Ps in data collection and outcome measurement.
