When you paste in a prepared text sample, this calculator gives scores for the Coleman Liau index, the Flesch Kincaid Grade Level, the Automated Readability Index, and the Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG). It also provides basic text statistics, such as the number of characters, words, and sentences. The calculator was designed in collaboration with readability expert (and SMOG creator) Harry McLaughlin.
