Poster abstract: Featured is an interdisciplinary seminar on low health literacy where participants review documents that individuals need to understand for making decisions about their health and wellness, for realizing their health care rights, and for ensuring their safety while using health care products. A teaching approach is presented for using teach-back as well as simulated collaborative writing exercises to address poor communications within medical appointment and medication instructions, informed consent documents, medical power of attorney forms, arbitration agreements, and healthcare marketing material. The poster take away is a “professional call to action” encouraging interdisciplinary, collaborate learning and training regarding health literacy.
