On-Demand: Insights from the Implementation of a Community-Driven Early Childhood Enrichment Program

The implementation of The Basics in Richmond County has evolved from a modest, grant-supported initiative into an expanding, community-driven movement focused on early childhood development. The initiative has increased awareness of early brain development and embedded simple, actionable caregiving practices into a wide range of community settings. While quantitative indicators are still under development, qualitative evidence points to meaningful progress. This session will share the successes and challenges that the community has encountered, and how these efforts have contributed to the emergence of a supportive network for young children in a region where early childhood preparation has historically been limited.

Objectives:

  • After attending this session, attendees will be able to describe at least one way for a program to engage with their specific population.

  • After attending this session, attendees will be able to identify challenges that may occur in their communities when looking to provide programming.

  • After attending this session, attendees will be able to employ similar strategies of engagement in their communities.
