On-Demand: Exploring Health Literacy in Paediatric Paramedic Practice: Current Approaches and Perceived Needs

This session explores health literacy in paediatric pre-hospital care and primary education contexts, drawing on paramedics’ perspectives of current practice. It examines how children’s and families’ health literacy is supported during time-pressured emergency encounters and outlines the key challenges identified in practice. The session highlights how paramedics conceptualise health literacy as a shared responsibility across healthcare and primary education and considers how cross-sector collaboration could strengthen children’s health literacy support. Implications for practice, policy and education are also discussed.
