On-Demand: Empowering Young Adults for Lifelong Health Wellness

The HealthWealth© program, created by HealthSpeak, is an interactive curriculum designed to strengthen young adults’ ability to find, understand, and use health information effectively. This session will showcase a Youth Ambassadors for Health Literacy Program and explain why such initiatives for young adults are important. Grounded in health literacy principles, the presentation reports common young adult health challenges, identifies the benefits of health literacy for young adults, and provides practical skills for meeting the demands of this population. Conference participants will learn strategies for developing similar educational programs in their community. The goal of any such program must be to equip young adults with actionable tools, trusted resources, and confidence to make informed health decisions and promote lifelong well-being.

Objectives:

  • Increase awareness of the need for young adult health literacy education by accurately identifying three evidence-based statistics.

  • Identify three barriers many young people face in achieving high health literacy, including access, complexity of information, and social and economic factors.

  • Identify three didactic activities to implement in a youth-focused health literacy program.
