Poster abstract: There is a significant gap in research literature for developing health intervention programming for homeless and uninsured populations, and to address this gap, we have developed a generalizable model for education materials that medical student volunteers may use as teaching aids to facilitate volunteer-patient communication. Preliminary data demonstrates that out model improves both medical student clinical skills and patient health literacy. By involving medical students in health literacy initiatives early in their medical careers, we aim to raise awareness of health literacy deficits in underserved patient populations and foster an attitude of social health justice in the medical profession.
