Presenter(s)

Poster abstract: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) carries a significant global burden, responsible for 17.9 million deaths worldwide in 2019. However, CVD risk can be addressed by individual behaviour and attitudes. The aim of this review is to synthesise peer-reviewed literature concerned with health literacy and primary prevention practices, knowledge, attitudes and/or beliefs of CVD.

Six databases were comprehensively scoped. Studies were included if in English, concerned with primary prevention of CVD and included health literacy in their analysis.

Thirty eight studies were included, most of which investigated health literacy’s role in cardiovascular risk (71%). Most included studies had one or more risk-of-bias.
