Health Insurance Literacy: Personal vs. Organizational

Healthy People 2030 identifies two types of health literacy: personal and organizational. These two aspects of health literacy can be extended to other types of literacies, including health insurance literacy. Health insurance literacy research can be categorized into personal, or research that looks at individuals ability to understand related terms and select appropriate insurance coverage, and organizational, or the literacy levels of health insurance materials and the system itself. This poster will define personal and organizational health insurance literacy and will offer concrete, evidence-based strategies that can be used to address both types of unique health insurance literacy needs.
