Building Health Literacy for Immigrants in the US: A Scoping Study

Presenter(s)
Alimatou K. Sarr - Research Assistant, University of Michigan - Flint

Poster abstract: Concerns about ‘low’ immigrant health literacy are well-documented, although research on immigrant adult HL education interventions remains limited. A rigorous scoping review of empirical studies shows that HL is influenced by migration context and experiences, access to resources, and policies. This poster describes interventions retrieved from six databases focused on developing the HL of immigrants in the U.S. Our review of HL interventions from the U.S. will provide additional insight into the scope and effect of these programs on learners. We display empirical trends and gaps and offer recommendations for enriching U.S. research on migrant HL.
