Poster abstract: The virtual fitness landscape creates a new frame for thinking about how social engagement within the online environment translates to physical and health literacy and subsequent decisions to engage in physical activity. A total of 590 virtual fitness users completed a cross-sectional online survey measuring social engagement and intrinsic motivation using the Behavioral Regulation of Exercise Questionnaire (BREQ-3). Social engagement on a virtual platform was associated with higher levels of intrinsic motivation for exercise (t(191.74) = 5.59, p < .001)). Results suggest that the social environment may influence digital literacy to inform health-related decisions.
