A Quality Improvement Pilot: Health Literacy and Patient Education in the Pacreatitis Center at Boston Children's Hospital

Assessing clinicians and patients health literacy, proper education materials, and providing equitable healthcare is essential to patient care. It enhances the caregiver and patients compliance and understanding of complex health conditions. Using the Focus- Analyze- Develop- Execute (FADE) cycle, surveys using a 5-point Likert Scale along were conducted to assess the clinicians and patient and/ or caregivers health literacy asking their preferred ways of learning. An education sheet about pancreatitis was developed for patients and caregivers who found the education sheet to be a 70% satisfaction rate because more in-depth explanation, support groups, and youth friendly materials are preferred.
