Julie McKinney has been involved in health literacy work for the past 20+ years. (This interest may have started in the Peace Corps in Papua New Guinea when she taught both literacy and health...) She has done extensive work for World Education, Inc., the Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA), and other health and literacy organizations. She has moderated the Health Literacy Discussion List since 2004, written health literacy curricula, resource guides, and plain language educational materials; and conducted health literacy trainings.
In addition to moderating this List, Julie now works with Exceptional Lives, Inc., a not-for-profit in Boston, MA. She develops and writes easy-to-read tools to help parents of children with disabilities navigate complicated processes and get the benefits, services and support they need.
Julie lives in Cambridge, MA with her husband, youngest son, cats and guinea pig. She's a fan of music and theater, the outdoors and science fiction.
