Webinar- Health Meets Art: Health Literacy Poetry Series

When:  Oct 26, 2022 from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM (PT)
Webinar Description:

Meet City of Rockford’s Youth Poet, Giulyana Gamero, and learn more about her health literacy poetry series. Throughout this body of work, Gamero encourages family members who speak English as a second language to request interpreters in healthcare settings and calls on her healthcare provider to leave the confusing jargon out of patient appointments. The poems were crafted to both celebrate the skill and experiences Gamero possesses, but also to welcome her fellow Rockford residents to join the conversation.

Objectives:

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Learn the role art can play to better explain and understand public health messaging
  • Learn how to creatively engage communities to understand their needs and experiences
  • Learn how to collaborate with artists to ensure the commissioned work is both an authentic artistic expression and a body of work that exhibits strategies to improve health literacy such as clear and linguistically appropriate communications.
